Ingredients

  • 7 medium apples peeled, cored, and cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 1 box Red Hots cinnamon candy 5.5 oz
  • 1 1/2 cups water use slightly less for a thicker syrup
  • vanilla ice cream optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Arrange the peeled and sliced apples evenly in a 9x13-inch glass baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the Red Hots evenly over the apples.
  • Pour the water over the apples and candy.
  • Bake uncovered for 45 minutes.
  • Carefully stir the apples every 15 minutes so the melted candy coats them evenly.
  • Remove the dish from the oven when the apples are tender and the cinnamon syrup has thickened slightly.
  • Let the apples cool for about 10 minutes before serving warm, or refrigerate and serve chilled.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream if serving as a dessert.

Notes

Use slightly less water for a smaller baking dish or a thicker syrup. Firm apples hold their shape best during baking.
