Ingredients

  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper or to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, mash together softened butter and shredded cheddar cheese until smooth and well combined.
  • Mix in cayenne pepper, then gradually add flour until a stiff dough forms.
  • Knead dough gently until no dry flour remains and dough holds together when pressed.
  • Pipe dough through a large star tip into strips, or roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into strips.
  • Arrange on prepared baking sheets and bake one sheet at a time for 12–16 minutes, until edges are deep golden.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to crisp completely.

Notes

For extra spice, add more cayenne or a pinch of smoked paprika. Store in an airtight container to keep crisp.
