Slow Cooker Amish Cube Steak with Brown Gravy

Tender cube steak is slow cooked in a rich brown gravy until soft, savory, and comforting. This Amish-inspired dinner is simple, hearty, and perfect served over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lb cube steak
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 packets brown gravy mix
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup 10.5 oz
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Lightly grease the inside of a 4-quart or 6-quart slow cooker.
  • Place the cube steak in the bottom of the slow cooker, overlapping slightly if needed.
  • Add the sliced onion over the steak.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the beef broth, brown gravy mix, cream of mushroom soup, and black pepper until smooth.
  • Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the cube steak and onions.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours, or on high for 3–4 hours, until the steak is tender.
  • Stir the gravy gently before serving.
  • Serve warm over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Notes

For a thicker gravy, stir in a cornstarch slurry during the last 20 minutes. Mushrooms can be added with the onions for extra flavor.
