Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup sour cream full-fat
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix about 1 oz
  • 1/2 tsp paprika optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an oval baking dish or 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange the chicken breasts in a single layer in the prepared dish.
  • Lightly pound any uneven chicken breasts so they cook more evenly.
  • In a bowl, stir together the melted butter, sour cream, and dry onion soup mix until smooth and combined.
  • Spoon the sour cream mixture over the chicken.
  • Spread the sauce evenly over the tops of the chicken breasts.
  • Sprinkle lightly with paprika, if using.
  • Bake uncovered for 40–50 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling, golden in spots, and the chicken reaches 165°F internally.
  • Let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
  • Spoon extra sauce over each piece when serving.

Notes

Full-fat sour cream gives the smoothest sauce. Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles to catch the extra sauce.
