Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 can condensed cheddar cheese soup 10.5 ounces, undiluted
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese sharp cheddar if you like more tang

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a medium glass casserole dish.
  • Place a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef until fully browned, breaking it apart into crumbles as it cooks.
  • Drain off the excess grease from the browned beef, giving it a good drain without needing to fuss over every last drop.
  • Stir the condensed cheddar cheese soup directly into the browned beef and keep the heat on medium until the mixture is evenly combined and heated through.
  • Unroll the crescent dough and press it into the bottom of the greased casserole dish, pinching all the seams together to make one solid crust.
  • Spread the beef-and-soup mixture evenly over the crescent dough, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese all across the top, reaching the corners if possible.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the crescent crust is golden and the casserole is hot and bubbly, checking around 20 minutes if your oven runs hot.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before slicing so the pieces hold together better.

Notes

Leftovers keep in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat covered loosely with foil in the oven until hot, or microwave a single square for lunch, keeping in mind the crescent crust will be softer. You can also brown the beef and mix it with the cheddar soup up to a day ahead, then refrigerate it until you are ready to assemble and bake.
