Ingredients

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1/2 pound sliced ham Thin slices are easiest to layer
  • 1/2 pound sliced salami
  • 1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup banana pepper rings Drain well
  • 1/2 cup roasted red peppers Drain well and slice
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • lettuce and tomato slices Optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or a light coating of oil.
  • Unroll one can of crescent dough and press it into the bottom of the greased baking dish, pinching the seams together and gently pressing the dough slightly up the sides.
  • Layer half of the ham over the dough, followed by half of the salami and half of the provolone, overlapping the slices enough to cover most of the dough.
  • Scatter the pepperoni evenly over the meat and cheese, then add the drained banana pepper rings and sliced roasted red peppers.
  • Sprinkle the Italian seasoning evenly over the peppers.
  • Layer the remaining ham, salami, and provolone over the pepper mixture, pressing the layers down lightly as you go.
  • Unroll the second can of crescent dough and lay it over the top, pinching the seams together and pressing the edges down to seal with the bottom dough as well as possible.
  • Brush the top dough with all of the olive oil, then sprinkle the grated Parmesan evenly over the surface.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is deeply golden brown and the cheese inside is bubbly.
  • Let the Italian sub squares cool for a few minutes, then cut them into 12 squares and serve with lettuce and tomato slices if desired.

Notes

Store leftover squares covered tightly in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual squares in a 350°F oven until heated through and the crust is crisp again. They may also be eaten cold, while microwave reheating will soften the crescent dough.
