Ingredients

  • 1 (12-ounce) box Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups tiny twist pretzels
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups kettle corn store-bought or homemade
  • 2 cups candy corn
  • 1 cup pumpkin candy corn
  • 2 boxes Reese’s Pieces regular movie-theater-ish size boxes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 275°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Put the Rice Chex and tiny twist pretzels in a very large mixing bowl.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and brown sugar together for about 1 minute, or until the butter is fully melted and the brown sugar is soft and dissolved as much as possible.
  • Stir the ground cinnamon into the warm butter and brown sugar mixture.
  • Pour the warm butter mixture over the Chex and pretzels, then toss gently but thoroughly until everything is coated.
  • Divide the coated Chex and pretzels between the two prepared baking sheets and spread them into fairly even layers.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring once at the 20-minute mark and rotating the pans if desired, until the mix is dry and crisp but not dark or burnt.
  • Let the baked Chex and pretzels cool completely on the pans before adding any candy or kettle corn.
  • Once cool, combine the baked Chex-pretzel mixture with the kettle corn, candy corn, pumpkin candy corn, and Reese’s Pieces in a huge bowl or gently toss everything together on the sheet pans.
  • Serve the Halloween Chex Mix in a big bowl or portion it into little bags.

Notes

Store Halloween Chex Mix in zip-top bags or an airtight container at room temperature. It is best within the first day or two while the kettle corn is still crisp, and it does not need reheating; do not microwave it because the candy will melt and the popcorn will become strange.
