Ann Roger's Christmas Cookies

Buttery slice-and-bake Christmas cookies combine powdered sugar, candied cherries, and chopped nuts in a tender vanilla dough.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups candied cherries

Instructions
 

  • Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla.
  • Stir in flour, chopped nuts, and candied cherries until just combined.
  • Roll dough into two logs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Slice dough into 1/4-inch rounds and place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Feel free to use red and green candied cherries for an extra festive touch. These also make a wonderful cookie exchange gift!
