Ingredients

  • 2 thick bone-in ham steaks about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds each
  • 1 cup pineapple juice plain canned or bottled
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar light or dark
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • Place the two thick bone-in ham steaks in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • Overlap the ham steaks slightly if needed to make them fit in the slow cooker.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the pineapple juice, packed brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar until the brown sugar is mostly dissolved and the sauce looks smooth.
  • Pour the pineapple mixture evenly over the ham steaks.
  • Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on Low for 4 to 5 hours or on High for 2 to 3 hours, until the ham is heated through and very tender.
  • Carefully transfer the ham steaks to a serving platter and spoon some of the cooking juices over the top.
  • For a thicker sauce, pour the juices into a small saucepan, let them settle for a minute or two if needed, and simmer briefly before serving.

Notes

Store leftover ham steaks in a covered container in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days, with some sauce spooned over them to prevent drying. Reheat gently in a covered skillet with a few spoonfuls of sauce or microwave covered in short bursts.
