Ingredients

  • 1 roll refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough about 16.5 ounces
  • 1 cup caramel sauce pourable sauce from a jar or bottle
  • 1 cup chopped pecans toast first if desired
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch glass casserole dish with cooking spray.
  • Press about two-thirds of the refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish, paying special attention to the corners.
  • Pour the caramel sauce over the cookie dough crust and spread it gently, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly over the caramel, then scatter the semisweet chocolate chips over the pecans.
  • Pinch off the remaining one-third of the cookie dough and scatter little pieces across the top, leaving some of the caramel, pecans, and chocolate exposed.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the edges are lightly crisp while the center remains soft and gooey.
  • Let the bars cool completely in the dish before cutting them; for the cleanest slices, chill the pan for 30 minutes, then cut with a sharp knife and wipe the knife between cuts.

Notes

Store leftover turtle bars covered in the refrigerator for several days. Place parchment between layers to prevent the caramel from sticking. Serve cold for chewy, dense bars, or warm a square very briefly for a gooey center. Freezing is not recommended because the caramel texture may change.
