Ingredients

  • 2 lb tenderized beef round steaks cube steaks, about 4 pieces
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 10.5 oz, undiluted
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 14.5 oz, with juices
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix 1 oz

Instructions

  • Place the cube steaks in the bottom of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker, overlapping slightly if needed.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, diced tomatoes with juices, and dry onion soup mix.
  • Mix until mostly combined; the sauce does not need to be perfectly smooth.
  • Pour the sauce mixture over the steaks.
  • Use a spoon to spread the sauce so every piece of beef is coated.
  • Cover and cook on low for 7–8 hours, or on high for 3 1/2–4 hours, until the beef is very tender.
  • Avoid lifting the lid during cooking so the slow cooker holds moisture and heat.
  • Gently stir the sauce before serving to bring it back together.
  • Taste and add black pepper or a small pinch of salt if needed.
  • Serve hot with plenty of gravy spooned over the top.

Notes

Onion soup mix is usually salty enough, so season at the end. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
