Ingredients

  • 2 bags frozen potato and cheese pierogi 16–20 oz each
  • 14 to 16 oz smoked kielbasa or Polish sausage sliced into rounds
  • 2 cups shredded cheese divided
  • 2 cups heavy cream or half-and-half

Instructions

  • Grease the inside of the slow cooker with cooking spray or butter.
  • Place half of the frozen pierogi in the bottom of the slow cooker, overlapping slightly as needed.
  • Scatter half of the sliced kielbasa over the pierogi.
  • Sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheese over the kielbasa.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining pierogi, kielbasa, and shredded cheese.
  • Pour the heavy cream evenly over the casserole.
  • Do not stir; the cream will settle through the layers as it cooks.
  • Cover and cook on low for 3–4 hours, until the pierogi are tender, the cheese is melted, and the sauce is bubbling around the edges.
  • Stir gently from the edges toward the center to coat everything without breaking up the pierogi.
  • Let the casserole sit uncovered for 5–10 minutes before serving so the sauce can thicken slightly.

Notes

Half-and-half may be used for a lighter sauce. Stir gently at the end to keep the pierogi intact.
