2lbground beef80–85% lean
1tspkosher salt
1/2tspblack pepper
2canscondensed cream of mushroom soup10.5 oz each, do not add water
1cupwhole milk
1canrefrigerated biscuit dough16 oz, 8 large biscuits
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with kosher salt and black pepper until evenly seasoned.
Divide the beef into 6 equal portions and press each into a rough 3-inch square patty, about 1/2 inch thick.
Arrange the raw beef patties in a single layer in the prepared casserole dish, leaving a little space between them.
In a bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup and whole milk until smooth.
Pour the soup mixture evenly over the beef patties, making sure the gravy runs between them.
Separate the biscuits and tear each one into 3–4 rough pieces.
Scatter the biscuit pieces over the top of the casserole, covering most of the gravy and patties.
Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
If the biscuits are browning too quickly, loosely drape foil over the top and continue baking for 10–15 minutes, until the biscuits are deeply golden and the beef reaches 160°F in the center.
Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Add sautéed onions or a pinch of garlic powder to the gravy for extra flavor. Serve with green beans or a simple salad to balance the richness.
